Dear Parents:

My name is Mr. Al Marchionda and I will be your child’s U.S. History or A.P. Government  instructor. Since I will be spending one hour a day with your child, I would like to tell you a few things about myself, both personally and professionally.

Before my family and I relocated to the Memphis, I was a teacher at New Haven High School in New Haven, MI for eight years. Prior to that I attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI, where I received my B.S. degree in History and English. I also received my Masters Degree from Marygrove College in Detroit, MI.

Teaching is not just a job for me; it is a passion. I plan to give everything of myself so your child will receive the best education possible. I will assist your child in understanding the concept of giving their best effort in everything they do in school and life. I hope with this will help them be successful in everything they ever try. I have extremely high expectations for your child and myself this year.

My goal this year is to create the safest possible learning environment for your child. I will strive to teach your child about life, disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills, commitment to democratic values and proper participation in the community. I will be a positive role model for your child and teach them the responsibilities every young adult should have. I will treat your child with the utmost respect, and in turn, expect cooperation and respect from your child.

This year I will be introducing many new techniques to help improve adolescent literacy. The goal this year is to continue to re-vamp the classroom into a more student-centered classroom. Your child will be introduced to many new and exciting techniques that will help them to improve their reading and writing skills. They will also be involved in working in collaborative group setting. I am extremely excited to incorporate these techniques and cannot wait to see the growth from all of my students.

I look forward to an exciting and productive year. I will keep in contact with you on a frequent basis via e-mail, school mail or phone calls home. You are the most important person in your child’s life, and your involvement and support mean a great deal to them. Please feel free to contact me at anytime. I can be reached via the office at 752-2881, or e-mail at amarchionda@scsk12.org

Sincerely,

Mr. Al Marchionda

U.S. History/ A.P. Government Instructor
